The Triman logo and sorting information in France

For brands selling consumer products in France working out when packs need the Triman logo and its sorting information. This page covers what you need to know and ways to avoid running into issues.

What we've seen reported

The Triman logo, set by Article L541-9-3 of France's Code de l'environnement, marks household products and packaging subject to a sorting rule, and since 2022 sits beside Info-tri sorting instructions, according to the article and its decree.1,2

What the rules cover

What the rules ask for

Where it goes wrong

Approved once. Then it drifts.

One approved set of product information ends up in many channels, markets and languages. Along the way it gets shortened, translated and reworded, and some versions end up without the warnings or details these rules require.

How Arbitr helps

So how do you stay on top of sorting information on packs in every market and language you publish in?

Read every version by hand? Or use AI to check what you publish against what you've already approved.

Check everything manually?

  • Too much to check. Too many channels, versions and translations to cover every market.
  • Drift goes unseen. No way of knowing when an approved product information has changed.
  • Changes mean starting over. When your rules or approved wording change, everything live has to be checked again by hand.

Let Arbitr do it for you

  • Scan what's live. Go through every live version, in every language, against your approved rules, and find every pack and sleeve where the Triman logo or its Info-tri has gone missing.
  • See what needs attention. See each flagged version with the rule behind it, so your team decides what changes.
  • Check what comes next. Check everything new against what you approved, across every channel, market and language, before it goes live.

Approve once. Apply everywhere.

FAQ

Questions about the Triman logo

For your teams
Where does the Triman logo go missing on packs sold in France?

Usually where artwork is shared or reworked. France's Decree 2021-835 describes the Triman and Info-tri together on the product or its packaging,2 and we usually find gaps on:

  • packs designed once for several EU markets
  • promotional sleeves and gift sets
  • travel sizes and samples
  • private-label packs from co-packers
  • pack images in online listings
How do shared EU pack designs handle the Triman logo and Info-tri?

Treat the French marking as part of the approved artwork, not a sticker added late. When a design is shared across markets, the France version needs its own check, and seasonal sleeves and multipacks are where the logo tends to disappear. Our packaging and labels page shows how teams track each market version.

What should the record for each Triman marking include?

Keep one record per pack: the approved Info-tri from your eco-organization, its version date, where the marking sits on each format, whether any part is shown online instead and why, who approved it, and every pack, sleeve and listing image it appears on.

How it applies to a specific label is a question for your legal adviser. Where that label appears across your markets and languages is a question Arbitr answers.

Who needs to know about the Triman logo in our business?

Packaging, artwork and regulatory teams usually own it, but marketing, e-commerce, co-packers and promotional agencies all touch the pack. Food businesses selling in England have their own label rules, such as Natasha's Law, and related rules are on our product labeling hub.

About the rules
When did the Triman logo and Info-tri rules start to apply?

Ecomaison's guide dates the Triman logo to January 1, 2015.4 Decree 2021-835 applied the combined Triman and Info-tri from January 1, 2022,2 and Citeo reports household packaging carried it from September 9, 2022, with older stock sold until March 9, 2023.3

Did the EU court case end the Triman logo requirement in France?

Not as of October 2026. The European Outdoor Group reports that the Commission's action against France over the Triman and Info-tri, Case C-249/26, was lodged on March 26, 2026, and published on May 11, 2026.5 Article L541-9-3 remains in France's code meanwhile.1

Does the Triman logo apply to glass bottles?

Household glass beverage packaging is left out of the marking requirement, according to Article L541-9-3 of the Code de l'environnement.1 Citeo reports that other household packaging under the packaging EPR scheme carries the Triman and Info-tri.3
